Former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has come out boldly against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of turning Nigeria’s national resources and state institutions into tools of political oppression.
In a passionate statement, Lamido slammed Tinubu for allegedly using powerful bodies like INEC, EFCC, DSS, and the Police to target and weaken opposition parties—especially the PDP. He warned that such behavior is not only undemocratic but poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s political stability.
According to Lamido, “destroying the PDP is like trying to destroy Nigeria itself.” He described Tinubu’s strategy as political suicide, insisting that a thriving opposition is crucial for any democracy to survive. Lamido accused the president of suppressing political freedom and turning democracy into a one-man game.
He didn’t hold back when speaking about recent defections from the PDP to the ruling APC—particularly the departure of key figures like the former Delta Governor and 2023 vice-presidential candidate. Lamido said he was ashamed and disappointed, but remained optimistic, stating many defectors will “return home” before the year ends.
Lamido concluded by calling for Nigerians to rise above party lines and defend democracy, peace, and political liberty.
